From Politico.com: The House just approved Rep. Mike Pence’s amendment to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood, checking off a hot-button social issue even as it set up a bigger showdown over defunding the health care law.

Hey. What action can we take besides knowing the attack. I assume it has to go to the Senate & to Obama. I support Planned Parenthood & have been a member for years.
They need funds to fight this horrible resolution. All these male chauvinistic men have forgotten the organizations roots. In the 19th Century Irish woman were always pregnant & dieing young. The organization was to teach family planning. Because of the loose sex in this country, abortions have to be done.
Manatee County has the highest teenage births. Abstinence doesn't work. Professional sex education is the way to go. Manatee County is finally funding steps to do this.
After the atrocity in Arizona Jan. 8, do our Florida Republican lawmakers really want to copy the Arizona laws for Florida? The Arizona Pima County Sheriff has commented: “Arizona is the Mecca for racism and bigotry.” Is this the pattern of law sought by our lawmakers for Florida?

Just thinking this myself. Interesting how some in the news media, while they may acknowledge the vitriol in recent politics, fail to realize that if enough hate and bigtory is spewed out particularly by the right-wing fanatics, that some failure, ignorant individual like the kid in Tucson will be driven to react violently. This clueless kid who only knows anger and has easy access to a gun, bad combination.

Thanks for alerting Floridians on the Arizona bigotry and hatred the last Arizona legislature created. We live in Arizona in the summer time and know first hand hand how much bigotry exists in Arizona. It has affected tourism as we live in Sedona, which is primarily tourism. Many Mexicans have left Arizona and many businesses have suffered. Mexicans contribute much to the economy and are not a drain on our welfare system. I am not surprised about the Tucson shooting. Anyone can own a gun without a permit in Arizona.
...President Obama’s new position on the tax cuts to the wealthy?

I'm very disappointed that the wealthiest 2% HAD to be included in the tax cut and that the tax cut had to be guaranteed for 24 months, but unemployment benefits extensions only would be guaranteed for 13 months. Change the 13 to a 24, and it would be much more equitable. BTW, we still do have the majority in both houses...

I don't know that Obama "caved" or if he did a good deal to keep the other expenditures—seems like maybe he is not the best negotiator? That said, his more forceful speaking yesterday was a welcome treat—that's the president I voted for.
Anyway, I think most people (myself included) would rather see people under $250K get a tax break and those making more have to pay more.

If you want justice in this world name your pet accordingly. How can a political party be successful in alienating 98% of the electorate to preserve the wealth of the other 2%? Is this a democracy or an oligarchy? What the Republicans want is for the rich to rule and for the rich to make all the rules. Unfortunately, class warfare doesn't work in this country except when the wealthy make war on the working class. If anyone would imagine that the Republicans at a time of recession, high unemployment, foreclosures and bankruptcies of real pain and higher health care costs and more people finding health care insurance unavailable or unaffordable , of a crumbling if not so 19th century infrastructure, of high debt owned by our rivals and enemies, of dying and maimed soldiers, global warming, failing educational systems could ignore these issues and focus on the truly needy rich, the job makers, the wealth makers, the captains of industry the truly valued part of our society, the masters of the universe whose spare change falls so benificent on the less worthy, the aimless the shiftless the lazy the bloodsuckers well what have we become? The right wing calls income redistribution socialism so what do they call it when all the wealth income is gained by the top 1% of the households. We used to shop at the Banana Republic now we are the Banana Republic where income disparities resemble a third world country. But I digress.
Yes America Held Hostage day number 3,000 would have made a great reality show since it really is reality. I have to say that the deal (please don't honor it with compromise as much as compromised) is the best deal that Obama could have gotten since in January deal-hunting season is officially over and the Inquisition begins. It is so sad that the political season is now the only season totally displacing if not disgracing governance. In the Senate when the minority is the majority there is no governance. When one senator from let's say a state with less than one percent of the population can decide the fate of the entire nation, then we need to redefine democracy.
Sadly, none of this high drama has anything to do with solving the problems we are experiencing. Tax cuts are not equivalent to an investment strategy to make this country more competitive in a globalized market. We are in survival mode and this from the greatest country in the world. Why don't we ask China to feed and clothe us—oh they are already doing this by buying our debt from the proceeds of the stuff they sell us. American poster showing Uncle Sam pointing a gun to his head captioned with HOSTAGE R US.
The Manatee Democratic Party on occasion will pose a question to get us talking. We want to know what you think!
